Well, it has been one of those semesters that really tested my abilities as a teacher. The challenge with teaching Computer Communication is that topic is constantly changing. But a more fundamental change is the type of students that are passing through colleges. The old lecture and test format is not working as a well anymore. During the Thanksgiving break, I read up on team-based learning and problem-based learning for new ideas in teaching. I’m developing a framework now and will test it out in the 2007 Spring semester.
The most valuable lesson that I have found is that teaching with Web 2.0 tools requires a new model of teaching which is student-centered and has more interaction. Makes sense considering how Web 2.0 has changed everything else. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue to work on the Web 2.0 Teaching Model.
